Our Story and Inspiration

Who we are

The Farmhouse Gardens is a specialty cut flower farm located in the Foothills of Western North Carolina. We grow a large variety of sustainable flowers and greenery on approximately 1/2 acre of land.

Our flowers and greenery are available from late spring until fall as hand-tied bouquets, bouquet subscriptions, custom flower arrangements, flower bunches and flower buckets, which are perfect for the DIY’er to use for creating their own bouquets.

In addition, we offer cut flower bars for private parties and events and floral design workshops.

We also sell to the trade and to event planners. If you are a florist or event planner and would like to purchase flowers for your business, send us a message through our contact us form.

Inspiration

Growing up in the foothills of Western North Carolina, I spent a lot of time outdoors and in the mountains hiking and just enjoying nature. Flowering shrubs and trees caught my eye first for I was intrigued with all the different types of leaves and shapes of their branches and trunks. Then my eyes turned to wildflowers, gardens with natural landscapes with drifts of flowers and informal spaces where flowers made the space come alive.

Throughout the years I have spent more and more time in the garden creating different types of garden beds, each having their own characteristics and flowers to blend with their natural habitats. Gardening is hard work, it challenges me and sometimes gets the best of me, but it also brings me great joy and satisfaction. There is nothing like putting my hands into the soil and working within the garden beds, because even on my hardest days, it brings peace and relief.

I always feel close to God when I am in nature for, we can truly see His hand at work creating and bringing things to life. Plants that lay dormant all winter, come awake in springtime with new growth and burst forward with beauty. This is how my soul feels when I think about God and the influence He has had on my life. God brings to bloom the beauty within me, washes away the parts of me that need to be pruned and creates a beautiful tapestry of what is left behind

This is how God works in nature. He gently allows plants to grow, some die off due to age, natural occurrences or disease, but what is left, are healthy and strong plants that will continue to grow, divide, pollinate and continue to create new varieties within nature.

It was around 2020 that a friend said to me, “I wish I could grow flowers like you do. I kill everything I try to grow”. I remember looking at her and saying, “I bet I could help you grow something. I am sure if we choose the right plant, the right location and maintenance level to match your lifestyle, that you could grow something successfully.”

It was then that God planted a seed in my heart, that I could use my love of nature and flowers to help bring joy and happiness to others. I continued studying plants, landscaping, signed up for an online correspondence class through The English Gardening School and in 2020, I established the specialty cut flower farm, The Farmhouse Gardens.
